Connecting mine planning workflows: integration between HxGN MinePlan 3D and Leica Cyclone 3DR

Use of 3D laser scanning technology for mining survey workflows is constantly growing. It is critical to process and transfer this data from the field to downstream stakeholders as quickly as possible.

The integration of HxGN MinePlan 3D and Leica Cyclone 3DR fuses the powerful point cloud capabilities of 3DR with the comprehensive downstream planning and engineering processes in MinePlan.

Users can import their point cloud field data, clean the data, create/update surfaces, send the surfaces directly to MinePlan 3D, and seamlessly incorporate them into daily planning and engineering workflows.

The video summarizes an example workflow:

  1. Import field point cloud data into Cyclone 3DR.
  2. Clean the point cloud data to eliminate noise or any data that is not needed such as mobile equipment within the scan.
  3. Use the cleaned point cloud data to create Digital Terrain Models or 3D Mesh surfaces.
  4. Work with the newly created surfaces in 3DR, e.g. creating stockpiles and corresponding customized reports of stockpile material quantity estimation.

With the click of a button, users can send surfaces over to MinePlan 3D to update downstream processes like coding block models with updated topography percentages, creating either long-term or short-term cuts, visualizing mining progress, and much more.

With the ability to efficiently manage daily point cloud survey data from field data collection through to daily planning and engineering workflows, informed decisions can be made in near real time. This ultimately translates into a more efficient mining operation and increases net value output.
