Did you attend the 2019 GMG Tucson Forum? Over 50 attendees gathered for an incredible two days of dynamic sessions and thought leadership around trending industry topics. Couldn\u2019t attend? Here\u2019s a rundown of some key takeaways.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG) assembles like-minded companies to help drive change in the industry. The group establishes guidelines that improve risk management, design solutions, performance, planning, and decision making while saving time and money. Last month\u2019s forum saw tech and mining companies unite to discuss industry problems and how pain points could be relieved by autonomous mining, interoperability, the \u201cconnected\u201d mine, artificial intelligence and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The forum attracted 18 speakers, sharing personal experiences and insights on the technologies yielding real results out in the pits. It was impressive to see just how much mines were benefitting by developing digital portfolios.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Teck, Canada’s largest diversified resources company, was one company in attendance. It examined how mines could use machine learning to boost haul cycle productivity. Jose Hernandez, senior engineer at Freeport-McMoRan, joined us to discuss the role of unmanned aerial systems in the industry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Hexagon\u2019s very own Marcelo Romero and Larissa Gounden were also speakers this year, representing the Mining division. Marcelo, Business Development Director for operations, started the event with a warm welcome and shared how our fleet management system is benefitting one of Mexico\u2019s largest silver mines.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Larissa Gounden, Senior Global Manager for services and support, participated in a panel discussing ever-evolving skills and workforce requirements. The panel emphasized the importance of focusing on talent acquisition and retention. Larissa also mentioned this about the hot topic:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Attendees weren\u2019t there to simply listen though. Multiple breakout sessions allowed everyone to share feedback and ideas.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We were thrilled to host the forum at our headquarters in the heart of downtown Tucson, an emerging hub for mining technology. The space features the Experience Center, showcasing our life-of-mine solutions with hands-on demos. It was a great opportunity for attendees to not only discuss the possibilities of technology, but to interact with them as well; not to mention the beautiful view from the fifth-floor event space & patio.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
